About Making Duvet Covers

If you have been trying tobuy duvet cover sets then you must know that this is an expensive excercise. Well the next best option is to just do it yourself. In this article I will present some few ideas on how you can go about doing this.

For a first timer making them may be a bit of a struggle and probably not the best quality like your every day duvet cover set you find in stores but depending on how fast you catch on it can be something to be proud of. The first hurdle you are probably going to encounter is that of making the perfect insertion point i.e. where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.

The best way to sort this out is by being well organised. Start by finding all the sheets you will need. Go for a material that you absolutely adore – for example if you want a denim duvet cover then I suggest you look for the relevant material. Pin the side and the bottom before moving on to the top section. Then after you can also think about how to fold the top sides.

Make the buttonholes at the top right. This should be exactly where the two sheet ends are joined together. You do have an option to use ribbons if you love them. If the sheet is longer than the quilt then fold it down on one side – about 12 inches. You will then need to stitch it up on the sides such that it looks like an envelope closure.

As for the closure, you can choose a snap take, zipper or Velcro, depending on what suites you best. I suggest you consider nylon zippers if you are looking for something more convenient and easy to handle.
