Renewable Energy Sources, Are We Ready?

Renewable Energy Sources

The energy market is a difficult market to understand, in general we can see a big change the last few years because fossil fuels are becoming scarce and people are more aware of environmental issues and would like to use a more renewable energy source. The demand for this kind of electricity in peoples homes and workplaces is growing but are we ready?

Checking Technology

Renewable energy sources like sun, water and wind can provide us with more energy then we need, that means that we have the technology to stop using fossil fuels all together. So the technology is no problem. The technology could have some more resources so development can go a bit faster but at this phase there is no way back and development will go faster anyway.

Government check

Although governments, from all over the world, do see the necessity of renewable energy sources they miss the decisiveness and courage to make drastic changes. There are some countries that do take the exemplary role serious and this means the investments are going faster and profits are being made. It is time for the united states to take part of renewable energy politics as well. We depend to much on oil companies and when time comes we will depend and pay for renewable fuels more then we should if we would invest more money now and in the near future. Our government should take advantage of the financial crisis and invest in renewable energy source to ensure a better future.

Power companies check

Power companies are not ready to provide green electricity to the majority of people, period. The investments are to small if we see that just 18% of the global energy consumed comes from some sort of renewable energy source. Of which 13% comes from biomass (which is produced through minimal wood burning, not very eco friendly), 3% comes from hydro-power (water), 1.3 % comes from water heating and 0.8% comes from other renewable energy sources that include geothermal, wind, solar and ocean energy.

0,8% is almost nothing, especially when we know that the sun gives us enough energy each hour to provide the earth with all energy we need for a whole year. But the interests of oil and power companies lie not with renewable energy sources, they have there own interests and those interests are often not the same as the common good

Checking the Consumers

Are we ready? You might think that is a stupid question, but do we really make the right choices? Do we go for cheap or for durable and renewable. We need to ask ourselves if convenience and the price are the only criteria we select our power on? Are we willing to invest ourselves if the power companies will not, and will we place solar panels or wind turbines on or around our homes? If we want renewable energy sources to succeed we need to be ready to take action now and urge the government and the power companies or take steps ourselves. We need to take steps today for a better world tomorrow.
